I bring a variety of personal and professional experience to my coaching:
Coaching training, credentials and experience: I launched my coaching practice in 2002. I work primarily with individuals contemplating job or career changes and have supported over 1200 clients in both individual and group coaching. I am trained and certified in coaching through the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI) and have earned the designation of Professional Certified Coach (PCC) through the International Coach Federation (ICF). I am a Certified Career Transition Coach and also hold a certification in Empowerment Coaching from the Empowerment Institute. I am a member of the National Career Development Association as well.
Coaching groups, programs, workshops and webinars: I have extensive experience in the design and delivery of group coaching. Group programs I have created and facilitated include:
- Career Fit: A webinar program for soon-to-be and recent college graduates looking to clarify their career direction
- Jumpstart Your Career: A career development webinar series for Jumpstart alums
- Alive and Authentic: A coaching group for cancer survivors
Personal Branding: I hold three certificates in personal branding — how to describe one's talents in a manner that is authentic, clear and effective — from Career Thought Leaders/Reach Personal Branding. I have training and experience in how to gather and interpret feedback from colleagues and associates, how to use LinkedIn effectively and how to design and implement attractive and effective personal branding.
Strategic planning and organizational development: Prior to coaching, I was a consultant specializing in organizational development, strategic planning and group facilitation.
Labor and workplace policy as well as business and government experience: I served as Assistant Secretary of Labor under Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis and was also a legislative aide to a Massachusetts state senator working on economic development and workforce policy issues. I have also been a union staff member and an ownership partner in a consulting firm.
Educator, researcher and writer: I have taught adult education and college-level courses as well as worked as a researcher and a writer.
Undergraduate and graduate education: I have an undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Brown University, a Master's degree in Labor Studies from the University of Massachusetts and a graduate certificate in Management from Harvard University.
Meditation: I have practiced meditation since 1996 and integrate mindfulness with coaching in a gentle way.
Cancer survivor: Fully recovered from a bout with cancer in 1996, this experience informs my work with anyone who faces life challenges. It shapes my perspective by reminding me of the preciousness and precariousness of being alive.
Mother and human being: I have made career changes, shifted the balance between work and family life several times, made internal changes in my perspectives, added wellness activities to my own life and coped with various crises and losses over the years. All that is to say that my life is a work in progress too.
